Simon is a Senior Consultant with FRA. He has spent his career working in trade and export finance. He spent twenty two years at Deutsche Bank, most recently as Global Head of Structured Trade & Export Finance, retiring in September 2019. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, he worked for Lloyds Bank for eleven years.
As Global Head of Structured Trade & Export Finance at Deutsche Bank, Simon led the team responsible for supporting the bank’s clients through the arranging of medium and long term finance for cross border capital equipment and infrastructure projects. Finance would typically carry the support of export credit agencies and/or the private political risk insurance market. He has worked with all the major export credit agencies of the world and most underwriters in the private insurance market, where Deutsche was one of the leading banks in developing and using insurance products for the export finance market. Simon managed teams in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Dubai, New York and Hong Kong.
Over the last decade, the single largest growth market for the Structured Trade & Export Finance (“STEF”) business was Africa, where Simon’s teams arranged finance for capital equipment exports and infrastructure projects in Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa. Prior to taking global responsibility for STEF, Simon ran the Europe, Middle East and Africa team. He was personally responsible for many of the transactions in Africa and has been a frequent visitor to the continent over the years.
Simon started his career with Lloyds Bank International in Brazil where he worked for four years. He is fluent in Portuguese.
