Carol Der Garry, former PCAOB and SEC Regulator, Expands FRA’s Investigations & Accounting and Audit Advisory Team
Forensic Risk Alliance (FRA) is pleased to announce that Carol Der Garry, a former Associate Director for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), has joined FRA as a Partner based in Washington, DC, expanding the existing team of former SEC accountants and Big Four partners.
Carol has more than 35 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant in forensic investigations, auditing and accounting, in both the public and private sectors. Her experience includes conducting investigations involving complex auditing, accounting and internal control over financial reporting matters regarding possible violations of PCAOB and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) professional rules and standards. At FRA, she will focus on accountant and auditor liability matters, including assessing complex accounting and auditing issues and auditor conduct in SEC and PCAOB enforcement matters, internal investigations, accounting and financial reporting projects, accounting restatements as well as reviewing the application of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
“We are delighted to have Carol Der Garry join FRA,” said Frances McLeod, co-founding Partner and Head of FRA’s U.S. offices. “Her extensive leadership experience and specialized knowledge of SEC and PCAOB enforcement will give our clients, including multi-national public companies, audit committees and accounting firms, unique and valuable strategic insight when navigating regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings.”
During her eight years at the PCAOB, Carol worked as the lead accountant on numerous high-profile investigations, including those involving international accounting firms and their former partners. She worked closely with the PCAOB Office of General Counsel, the Office of the Chief Auditor and the SEC Enforcement Division, and coordinated regularly with foreign regulators. Previously, she spent nearly three years at the SEC’s Enforcement Division. Carol also has in-house experience at a public company and as an auditor in global accounting firms. She has worked with outside counsel in internal investigations, SEC enforcement matters and litigation, and has previous experience at an international consulting firm where she successfully completed a variety of multi-national investigations and regulatory matters, including serving as an expert witness for the SEC.
“I am thrilled to join FRA, a market leader in investigations and forensic accounting with a strong global platform,” Carol said. “FRA offers clients extensive cross-sector and cross-border experience and diverse client service teams with deep expertise in solving complex issues.”
Carol earned her Masters’ degrees in Business and Public Management and Accounting from Rice University. During her tenure with the PCAOB, Carol received multiple awards, including the PCAOB Superior Achievement Award, Division Director’s Award, Division International Case Result Award, Division Special Project Award and Division Citizenship Award.
