Data analytics and technology in modern compliance programmes

June 4, 2026

Regulators are no longer just asking whether companies have a compliance programme, but also whether it’s powered by data. From DOJ enforcement trends and penalty reductions to AI governance and the monitor’s perspective, understanding how data analytics fits into corporate compliance has become essential for any organisation operating in today’s regulatory environment.

In the current regulatory environment, compliance-focused data and data analytics are no longer simply “nice to have”. These elements have become a necessary component of effective compliance programmes and are a key area of focus for both government regulators and monitors. Beyond helping organisations meet regulatory and monitoring expectations, sound compliance data analytics practices provide valuable benefits, including improved risk identification, proactive monitoring and enhanced decision-making.

While companies may focus on enhancing compliance data analytics capabilities to meet current best practices, it is important not to lose sight of the evolving nature of compliance standards and expectations. Enforcement priorities and the emphasis placed on specific compliance programme elements may shift over time with changes in regulatory priorities, enforcement policies and agency leadership. As a result, organisations should focus on not only implementing new technologies but also building flexible, data-driven compliance programmes that can adapt to changing regulatory expectations and enforcement priorities.

In light of these evolving expectations, companies must ensure that the integration of these technological advancements achieves the intended outcomes and meets stakeholder expectations. Embracing technological advancements responsibly can help organisations remain responsive to the ever-evolving regulatory landscape while maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of their compliance processes.
