Partner Gerben Schreurs on Initial Enforcement Focus of the EU AI Act

October 17, 2024

FRA’s Gerben Schreurs has been quoted by Compliance Week, discussing the likely focus of initial enforcements of the EU AI Act.

Drawing on his expertise in compliance and technology, Gerben noted, “initial enforcements of the Act will likely focus on how organizations interpret and assign the classifications of their AI models.” With AI technology evolving rapidly, he outlines that proper risk classification is essential for companies to maintain compliance. The Act places obligations on providers of high-risk AI systems in the EU, prohibiting those that create an “unacceptable” risk. Companies that breach these rules face significant fines, highlighting the urgent need for accurate classifications.
